So after watching Miss Representation in my media class, my heart was full of love for every single person out there. I just wanted to run out in the crowd and yell to the world- "YOU MATTER! You are a child of GOD, not an object to be degraded or looked down upon! NEVER let anyone trick you into thinking you need to be something else. You are wonderful! You are beautiful! JUST THE WAY YOU ARE!!!" My heart ached for all the people out there who have let the media influence them into believing they need to be something different, whether it's being skinnier, more beautiful (according to the world's standards), more vulnerable, or even more masculine (for men). It just makes me sick to the stomach. The media's influence is everywhere! If we're not careful, we can run the risk of acquiring the belief that we are "not good enough." If so, we will live very unhappy and sad lives. My prayer for all the women and men out there is to find your value within, and treasure it up. You matter, no matter what the world tells you.-Christina wants us to believe it too :). I added the "images" part. Read the lyrics as though you are singing them to the world.
Everyday is so wonderful
Then suddenly
It's hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain
I'm so ashamed
I am beautiful
No matter what they say
Words [& images] can't bring me down
I am beautiful
In every single way
Yes words [& images] can't bring me down
Oh no
So don't you bring me down today

I thought the same thing after watching that show. It is really hard to see people beating themselves up because they are not living up to the media's expectations.
